Jay Bell

Congratulations to Jay Bell, of Shoreview Minnesota, as the Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences’ Outstanding Alumnus for 2015. Jay is the associate dean of academic programs and faculty affairs in the college of food, agricultural, and natural resource sciences at the University of Minnesota. He is a founding board member of two non-profits.  The Good Acre, established "food hubs" to help facilitate urban agriculture and provide fresh food to underserved neighborhoods in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  Frogtown Farms primary activities include the development of an urban demonstration farm in the Frogtown Community and a variety of community education programs around food and soil. Jay is also a part of the curriculum development working group, Educate Tanzania, a non-profit whose goal is to  establish a small agricultural college in northwestern Tanzania
