Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences (CSES) Graduate Scholarships
 

Apply through the CALS web site Prospective Students tab, on the Awards, Scholarships and Financial Aid web page. Application forms open November 15 and close March 1 unless otherwise noted below. One application is good for all CALS and CSES graduate scholarships. Students may submit multiple career plans and their essay may reflect multiple areas of interest in order to target one or more of the following scholarships. Any additional information beyond that requested on the CALS web site application form can be sent to the specific “Scholarship” link. Students should submit a full resume and two letters of reference.

If the scholarship requires being in graduate school, the student may apply as a senior as long as they begin graduate school before the following fall semester. Scholarships are awarded per academic year to graduate students enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more per semester) in the Department of Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences or with a CSES major faculty advisor. Students who graduate in December are not excluded. Scholarships (marked with *) are awarded to students at annual professional meetings.

Virginia Forage and Grassland Council Harlan E. White Scholarship:  Established to assist graduate students studying promotion and better understanding of forages and grasslands in Virginia. Send email to: Scholarships. Based on academic achievement.

Charles I. Rich Student Fellowship:  Established for Ph.D. candidates who have successfully completed their preliminary examination. Send email to:Scholarships. Based on academic and extracurricular achievement.

Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Obenshain Scholarship:  Established for graduate students who work in areas related to soil genesis and taxonomy and/or who use soil taxonomic information in studies of land use for agricultural or urban purposes. Send email to: Scholarships. Based on academic and extracurricular achievement.

*Louis and Ginger Brooking Turf Scholarships:  Established for graduate students with an emphasis of study in the inter-departmental Turfgrass Program. Based on academic and extracurricular achievement. Send email to: Scholarships. Apply by Nov. 1 each year.
